How Online SLP Master's Programs Work
As of 2026, approximately 35 CAA-accredited online or hybrid SLP master's programs are available, with more entering candidacy status each year. These programs must meet the exact same accreditation standards as traditional on-campus programs — your degree is fully equivalent. Here's the critical thing to understand upfront: "online SLP program" means coursework is delivered online, but clinical practicum hours (400+) still require in-person client contact. You will not earn this degree entirely from home. The clinical component is hands-on and absolutely non-negotiable under ASHA and CAA standards.
There are three main program formats to consider: traditional on-campus (full-time, in-person everything), hybrid or blended (online coursework plus on-campus residencies and in-person clinical placements), and fully online coursework with locally arranged clinical placements. Hybrid is by far the most common "online" format. Each offers different trade-offs between flexibility and structure. Over 300 total CAA-accredited SLP programs exist nationwide across 333 institutions, giving you significant choice. The right format depends on your life situation, learning style, geographic flexibility, and career timeline.
